Program Overview

 

BBEL's research under this topic includes two major components: identifying high value products and developing fermentation or culture processes to produce the specific products and obtaining these products through separation and conversion. In the product identification area, we are currently developing polysaccharides, protein, and lipid products from algae, fungi, and yeast to be used in processing, consumer products and nutracueticals. In the separation and conversion area, we are developing technologies for separating polysaccharides and protein from biomass, and upgrading the lipid to bio-oil.
