Environmental Engineering
Bio-environmental engineering scientists incorporate engineering and biological principles into the study of agriculture, confined-animal operations, aquiculture, and natural resource systems. In order to reduce the environmental impact of managed biological systems, our researchers evaluate traditional management practices and develop technologies that aid in pollution treatment and control.
Recent efforts focus on water and nutrient cycling and odor control in aqua culture and confined-animal operations. Biological systems engineering researchers explore ways to effectively utilize natural treatment systems for wastewater. In addition, they develop and apply agricultural system models that support research in biomass productivity, environment-friendly management, and climate change impacts.
