Understanding the BSysE Computer Environment
You will need to thoroughly understand the Microsoft Active Directory. All WSU owned computers are members of the active directory but most personal computers are generally not members.
To electronically communicate effectively with WSU faculty, staff, and students, a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Exchange using Microsoft Outlook 2003 or newer is essential. For Mac users, this requrires MS Entourage.
Though not required, you should know that allmost all of the people in the department use Windows based computers and software. Those with other systems, (Unix, Linux, Mac, etc.) will be responsible for effectively interfacing with this reality.
The primary office software is Microsoft Office Professional.
General Research software is available but requires access to Windows based servers.
Web development is a collaborative effort between the department and the WSU marketing group. The preferred software package is currently Adobe Creative Suite (formerly Dreamweaver).
Printers:
There are several network printers available to members of the department. Please contact Vince Himsl after you have received your office assignment for printer access instructions.
